2012 RACE YOUR FACE OFF SCHEDULE

2012 RACE YOUR FACE OFF SCHEDULE

Hey racers,

I hope everyone had a very merry christmas holiday and a happy new year.

Now, it is time to look forward, forward to the 2012 season that is quickly approaching. The PNWMA board has been hard at work behind the scenes to make off road racing in British columbia more interesting, exciting for new racers, (and the hard cores) and also to be a more credible series.  The PNWMA has decided to change the name of the off road racing series here in B.C. to the BCORCS( British Columbia Off Road Championship Series).

When you look at our type of races, riding areas, and the amount clubs do to put on a good race these days,  this series should mean something to all off road racers, and even just the average trail rider. We have some amazing riding areas here in B.C. put on by some dedicated clubs that volunteer huge amounts of their time for this sport. So, why not make this a Championship Series right!

2012 British Columbia Off Road Championship Series Rundown!

This year there will be a total of 16 races on the BCORCS schedule. 8 coastal races and 8 interior races.  Rules and regulations are the same as always and points are counted the same as well.

We will start off the year with the Big Kahuna. As always, the kahuna showcases riders like no other race on the circuit. Most races the racers are quickly filtered into the forest for the spectators to rarely see the riders. At whispering Pines, everyone can see most of the race from the bleachers.  this race usually brings out some mxers which makes things interesting when stacked up against the trail racers.

Then Round 2 will be held on the rock. The roots of doom at Whiskey Creek has been around  for only 2 seasons, but has become a favorite for some  racers. April 22nd is usually a perfect  time to ride on the island which means perfect conditions.  Even though there isnt anything extreme or technically tough, the tight forests of the island and whooped terrain of whiskey can lay a beating on any racer over 3 hours +.

Round 3 is back in Squamish. The cat Scratch  is known to be the toughest race in B.C. For most, they love this race because of that fact. The SDBA has new trail to work with  and always continue to make a race better then the last. May 6th is the date, make sure you hit the gym for a few weeks before this one.

Rounds 4 and 5 will be  held  in the well known Bardolf riding area. The night pig and Squealin' Pig organized by Monty and the PORC never disappoint  on May long weekend. Vernon is a favorite for most trail racers. The vast trail system let's the club change things up year after year, keeping racers on their toes in which trails they would be racing on at the next race. Probably one of the best riding areas B.C. has to offer.  The camping area is great as well.

The piston Run at Chipmunk  Creek near Chilliwack is the 6th race of the championship. The Piston Run has been around  for a long long time. In fact, 64 years to be exact. It is a Coastal race, so racers  get ready for some more Coastal type terrain. Personally, on my top 3 most memorable races. It always seems to have alot of flow and also has the techincall aspect to it. But, do-able for all classes. June 10th  is th date.

Round 6 will be held at Hannegan Speedway. This is the only American based race still on our schedule. The Toasted Hare  is a shorter Hare Scramble, on the same lines as the Big Kahuna. But, with much tighter trails and can get slick in slippery if there is some dampness. It is always fun to head down and see how you stack up against  a whole new group of riders from Washington.

Canada Day, The monkey Wrench!!! The Wrench is well known and probably most racers would say it is the best race and riding all year long.  There is always the chance of dry conditions which makes for a dust storm at the start. But, when racers  quickly get spread out the riding really speaks for itself. Epic is the best word I can describe this year. Again, Canada day, July 1st, dont miss this one!

With the CEC'S starting off in the middle of July, the championship will take a short break, but will be right back at it on July 29th for Round 8

With a year absence, the Merritt Main Jet will be back on the schedule for 2012. Some avid racers/riders in the nicola Valley Area have formed a new club,(Nicola Valley Dirt Riders) and our thrilled to have a race back in their home town.  The main jet will be the last race of the 2012 championship on Thanks Giving weekend
